Al Jazeera - The French African Connection

This three-part series tells the story of 'France Afrique': a brutal and nefarious tale of corruption, massacres, dictators supported and progressive leaders murdered, weapon-smuggling, cloak-and-dagger secret services, and spectacular military operations.

A feeling of deja-vu for most of us who are interested in the french colonial history. Nonetheless this series gathers significant actors and plenipotentiary people who've been witnesses of the french way of "liberating Africa".

Offering FAKE INDEPENDANCES to french former colonies in Africa, was the WORST IDEA de gaulle had to preserve french interests over there. It definitely turned out to be the worst way to keep french influence not only in Africa, but in a global world. France has to cope with unfriendly responses of some south American and African leaders, as it faces less privileges its defunct colonial empire used to ensure.

De gaulle's strategies turned out to be much less smart than it's reported in french schools manuals. What's left to france after de gaulle's era is a tremendously expensive deterrence which hardly fits the modern warfare. The french government, following as usual the American administration, has made big cuts in defence budget. But that won't change anything. It's like driving a John Deer on a super highway, exotic and useless.

De gaulle's vision of the 21st century was narrow, excessively narrow, as he wasn't able to forecast the discontinuity of scientific discovering and applications which finally make all his political decisions obsolete, profoundly inappropriate. Not to mention the collapse of the USSR which he likely thought should happen in the 22nd century...

Ironically he joined the very same pantheon he prepared for the African puppets he placed at the head of African nations. What the french call "l'ensemble de son oeuvre" turns out to be just the graveyard of "follies de grandeurs" where one will find a "concorde", a "norway", an African "pré carré", a france that painfully tries to keep the pace with other european nations, a "force de frappe" deterrence that costs far more than it should in maintenance, impeding investments in modern industries etc...

For all the former french colonies originators, IT'S A CONSOLATION WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT.
SERVED FRANCE A RIGHT! WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR A PUNISHMENT FOR A LONG TIME. FRANCE HAD BEEN OVER-EXPLOITING PEOPLE AND SOILS IN AFRICA FOR MORE THAN A CENTURY! SERVED HER A RIGHT!
   LONG LIVE TO AFRICA!
